  • Round One: A maximum of three minutes in the regional preliminary round to present a two-person scene and a monologue.   Only 1 selection may include singing.
  • Round Two (remains the same): A maximum of five minutes in the regional semifinal round to perform the preliminary round scene AND a contrasting two-person scene (which may or may not incorporate singing) using the same partner for both scenes.
  • Round Three (remains the same):  A maximum of six minutes in the regional final round to present the semi-final round audition scenes plus the monologue or solo musical number from the first round.

The Intent to Participate must be completed so the Irene Ryan Coordinators know you are participating in the Ryans and can schedule you accordingly. Intent to Participate forms are due January 15 each year. We are only asking for the first round title this year in order to save us a lot of work – the semifinalists will have to email the coordinators with their titles once that round is announced…so no need to verify them before that time.

You have to register complete and pay for Festival Registration. This expense covers all events at the festival, allowing you to participate in all the wonderful opportunities at festival, including the Ryans. Think of it as your one-price-includes-all fee.

Since 1972, the Irene Ryan Foundation of Encino, California, has awarded scholarships to the outstanding student performers at each regional festival. These scholarships are made possible by the generosity of the late Irene Ryan, who is best remembered for her portrayal of the lovable and feisty ‘Granny Clampett’ in The Beverly Hillbillies. All student actors in both Participating and Associate productions are eligible for consideration for the $500 regional scholarships

The Irene Ryan Scholarships provide recognition, honor, and financial assistance to outstanding student performers wishing to pursue further education. The Irene Ryan Foundation awards 8 regional awards and two national scholarships annually. There are two scholarships of $3,500 each for the winners at the national festival in Washington, D.C.
